Green Dreams Natasha Dudinski and Irit Eshet For more than 40 years the Palestinian neighborhoods of East Jerusalem have suffered from continuous institutional neglect and a lack of sufficient investment in infrastructures. Public parks, playgrounds or even a little green in the public spaces are a rare sight in East Jerusalem. Safaa Alayan, 23, of Beit Safafa, decided to wait no longer for the Municipality of Jerusalem and to make the change – with and for her community.
House Arrest Keren Shayo Jawad Sayam, 40, is the director of a children’s cultural center and an information center located in the Wadi Hilweh neighborhood, also known as the City of David. The film tells the story of the local leader while he is under house arrest, his fierce attempt to continue fighting for his community and the price he has to pay. Jawad’s story is the story of Silwan, fighting for its identity against settlers’ domination efforts.
Behind the Wall Murad Nassar Kafr Aqab is located between the two cities of Jerusalem and Ramallah. Even though it is inside the boundaries of the “united” Jerusalem, it was left on the other side of the separation wall, where some 35,000 residents live in urban chaos. That is the price they have to pay so as not to lose the blue identity cards they carry as residents of Jerusalem. Samih Abu Rumeilah, 37, is working to repair the public sphere and restore the lost order both to the community and to the individual.
