Ir Amim's Activities |
Halting Illegal Construction in E-1 In summer 2004, Ir Amim’s monitoring activities revealed that construction had commenced in E-1 even before formal approval had been obtained. Ir Amim reported on this to senior diplomatic officials and to the Israeli press. The story was published prominently in the paper, and picked up by other Israeli media. When construction continued, Ir Amim published an op-ed piece in the Washington Post, in which it highlighted the ramifications of building in E1 for a future two-state solution. Days later, apparently as a result of the exposure and the pressure it generated, construction was halted.
Objection to Construction of the Judea and Samaria Police Headquarters Ir Amim continues monitoring the developments in the E-1 area and has filed an objection to the Government plan to construct the Judea and Samaria (West Bank) Police Headquarters in E-1. According to this plan, settlers' organizations will receive the current police building, located in the heart of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Ras al-Amud. The petition was rejected in July 2007 by the High Court of Justice.
